On August 21st, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Watervliet police officers conducted a motor vehicle stop on the Congress Street Bridge after observing violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law. Through investigation, it was discovered that the driver, Robert L. Alexander, was operating the vehicle with a suspended NYS Driver’s License. After executing a search, Alexander was found to be in possession of a loaded .38 caliber handgun.

Watervliet police charged Alexander, a 48-year-old male from Troy (photo attached) with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree (Class C Felony), one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree (Class D Felony), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation (AUO) in the 2nd Degree (Unclassified Misdemeanor) and other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations.

Alexander was arraigned in Watervliet City Court and remanded to the Albany County Correctional Facility.
